If the stock ---- gaps ---- way up the trade is generally not good.

You can't call a top until it is actually is a top (meaning that the trend must first reverse). You can only call them after they happen, but if you are timely enough that is fine.
Here's one I wrote a while back for calling tops and bottoms:

Tops for me means high risk, doesn't mean it's time to short. Swings would come off the table and no new long positions would be initiated....most of the time.
