1/11/2020 1:22:39 PM @ CHeese, From one of the RabbitHole articles: "Equities… just stay in and prosper! No problem in real time because the US stock market always comes back… ALWAYS. This is the kind of stuff that appears near tops; like stuff that uses ultra long-term yearly charts in log scale to smooth out the problems. So the next time this happens, try to forget that it was caused by epic policy distortions within the system the likes of which have been amped up exponentially since and just remember it’s actually a smooth ride assuming the next thing is like the last thing and you live long enough to reap the benefits." ============================================================ Is he kidding??? I can't tell if he's serious or facetious. I had plenty of stocks that did NOT have a "smooth ride" the next 20 years and did NOT "reap the benefits". RMBS (Rambus) @ $600 DNDN @ $200 (cure for cancer? THAT was a bunch of $#*+) MSTR @ $600 YHOO @ $60 INTC @ $90 - (In 2000, I told a friend I was "set for life". NOT!) CSCO @ $100 - (Ditto .. NOT!) AMBA @ $100 CLVS @ $90 Reap the benefits of a "smooth ride"? NOT! It's been a slow bumpy ride straight to hell! |

1/11/2020 5:07:22 PM karennma, About GOLD I don't have good experience with gold and I have no expertise whatsoever. I am just parrotting some of the things that I've read. SlopeOfHope has a few people with niche expertise or knowledge. I could not find the precise link any more, but their gold "expert" (as recognized by SoH peers) said that MONTHLY MA(50) and MACD (12,26,9) together are the most reliable indicators that he goes to, Please do your own due diligence. Good luck. |

1/11/2020 5:17:43 PM karennma, I see that the daily charts from your link also use 2 indicators MA(50) and MACD(12,26,9) https://nftrh.com/2020/01/08/the-running-of-the-gold-bugs-a-tale-as-old-as-time/ Some people often pointed to the fractal nature of moving averages of prices, and a cursory look at the daily, weekly, monthly MA(50) and MACD(12,26,9) gold charts seem to tell the same stories at the moment (up trend weakening?). Best wishes. |

1/11/2020 5:32:11 PM karennma, I don't know what the RabbitHole article you mentioned was about, but you are probably smarter than 99% of posters on trading and investing forums. So, ignore anything that doesn't feel right. |

1/12/2020 8:16:43 AM @ Cheese, Sorry! It wasn't rabbithole. Here's the link with the SPX chart. This is actually a link you posted above. I guess, basically he's saying just hold SPX all you're life and you'll never lose. Looking at the chart, that's correct. I thought he meant hold stocks .... and we all know, not all stocks go up forever. https://twitter.com/saxena_puru/status/1214873867589537792 |

1/12/2020 9:06:16 AM https://twitter.com/ThinkTankCharts/status/1215927687098904581 Haha! Scrolll down and look at the comment underneath the 2-year treasury yield chart ... Quote: "Is that why they pumping so hard now. We about to go over the edge ..." Also, Larew said something interesting .... Basically, when there's a market bubble and the shorts come in, there's no support for declining prices. THIS is exactly what happened to me in 2018 when I was just holding. So frustrating! My stocks were NOT going up because the shorts had been in long before October 2018. |

1/12/2020 12:42:47 PM karennma, As you might know, Warrent Buffett will leave his wealth to his wife in the form of 80%-90% as SPY shares and 10%-20% in cash. Buffett also has an ongoing $1 million challenge to any money manager who can consistently outperform his allocation of 80%-90% as SPY shares and 10%-20% in cash. So far no manager was able to collect that $1 million donation to charities. Many many years ago, Buffett and Fidelity Peter Lynch wrote that Buy and Hold would be appropriate only if your health and financial circumstances could tolerate a 55% drawdown over a sustained period. he above info about Buffett can be found on the internet and in Berskhire Hathaway AGM discussions. |

1/12/2020 1:55:12 PM karennma, Do you still remember the sF discussions about MARLYN TRADES ? TRO and a few other sF greats have picked out some of the best trading info and wisdom from MARLYN TRADES and posted here http://www.stockfetcher.com/forums2/General-Discussion/hey-rump/53919/-1/53943 At the time, there seemed to be more personal details about Marlyn, But now that personal info might have been archived away or deleted because it's too old and gets little interest from readers. I've heard some inspiring personal details about Marlyn from my co-workers a long long time ago. I have no way of knowing if any of it is true or not. Apparently, Marlyn was a Vietnam vet ex-Marine who returned home after the war to an ungrateful nation and a government that abandoned him. So, he earned a living as a long haul truck driver, taught himself trading, and retired after accumulating $2.5 million. In the early years, there was no internet, no cell phone, so Marlyn only used ema(4), ema(8) and ema(21). His motto was: simple systems, good profits. Anyway, hope you've enjoyed little story and benefit from TRO's and other sF posts on Marlyn Happy trading |

1/12/2020 6:25:57 PM @ Cheese, Re: Do I remember "Marlyn"? Nope. Only a vague recollection ... eventho' I found a post of mine after he vacated his blog -- ******************************************************************************************* karennma 7,388 posts msg #53927 8/9/2007 8:00:09 AM all of a sudden he stopped posting ... "I'm outta here" ... any idea Y he stopped? ================================================= As of TODAY, 01/12/2020 ... Yes, I've got an idea. He abandoned his blog, just like peeps disappear from SF. GAMBLING is not a cool way to make a living unless you're really good at it -- and most people are not. EDIT: BTW, I briefly glanced at one of his filters. It's a hybrid GUPPY filter. |
