I looked at a five year view in StockCharts. I saw 20% + drops numerous times. I also saw numerous uptrends during this period. Could also make the chart weekly to clear up the noise. TLT gained 33% in 2008. Shorting TMV (if it existed back then) or going long TMF in 2008 could have made you 89%
